While Kabali fever continues to ensure the new Rajinikanth film’s dream run at the box office, Anil Gote, a BJP MLA from Maharashtra has come up with the suggestion that Thalaivar should be conferred with the highest civilian award in India – the Bharat Ratna.
Gote proposed that the Maharashtra government should award Rajinikanth the state’s highest honour ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’. While proposing this in the Lok Sabha today (July 27), Gote also said that the Assembly should consider passing a resolution asking the central government to give Rajinikanth the Bharat Ratna.
Calling Rajinikanth the “Son of the Soil”, Gote said that considering Thalaivar’s position in the industry, he is equivalent to a demi-god. He also added that Kabali’s release in a record 8,000 screens worldwide is proof enough that his stature in Indian cinema is unparalleled. The Pa Ranjith directorial venture grossed Rs 48.95 crore on its first day of release in India, beating Salman Khan-starrer Sultan’s opening gross by a wide margin. According to latest reports, the Rajinikanth film has grossed Rs 230 crore in the first four days of its release.Kabali, starring Radhika Apte and Winston Chao, apart from Rajinikanth, is currently running in theatres worldwide.
